Worry creased across Kory’s brow as the wind blew those blond bangs back and forth. Zac knew Kory was having thoughts similar to his own. Kory glanced from face to face on the boat, trying to match up online screen names and real-life people and trying to decode the whole thing like some software program— like some complicated computer virus that had turned his own site against him.
Seeing Kory so concerned and contemplative was not what Zac had wanted. But there was something about this man stripped of his sarcasm and biting wit that appealed to Zac. Kory was a real businessman concerned about his company. He was not worried about his hair or clothes or where his next bitchy comment was coming from. He was more open and exposed than he had been back on the rough carpet of Zac’s office.
Kory’s loose white shirt was open and blowing in the wake of the sailboat’s breeze. Slim, blue boarder trunks reached toward Kory’s knees. His shirt flitted like a sail, revealing glimpses of the pale, taut flesh of Kory’s torso.
Kory was thin and lean. The way he grabbed at his billowing shirt self-consciously only emphasized the smooth, sleek innocence of his powdery complexion. His body had none of the pumped-up steroid ideal that paraded itself along Baytown’s main drag. Zac despised the cookie-cutter, party-boy blow-up doll. Their overworked muscles looked like they’d been inflated. Even their skin looked plastic after all the waxing, plucking, tanning and whatever else went into their beauty regime.
There was nothing artificial about Kory’s body. And his narrow build had none of the awkward bulk Zac felt in his own frame. Zac’s wide shoulders and thick thighs made him feel like a bumbling linebacker when he swam, ran or danced. Despite Kory’s discomfort on the dance floor, he looked streamlined and elegant just the way he held his body. Zac couldn’t help but think how their two contrasting bodies would feel against one another—muscle and leanness, hairy and smooth. Not in the rushed heat of anger and passion they had experienced in those moments on his office floor. But slowly peeling off that shirt to hold Kory’s smooth slim torso against Zac’s solid chest.
The sudden shift Zac felt in his trunks brought him back to reality. He was glad he’d thrown a pair of khaki shorts over his square-cut swimsuit. Especially when he realized Kory was looking straight at him. Zac’s eye had been lingering on Kory’s body, not his eyes, but now those golden orbs were fixed on Zac’s wondering gaze.
Zac blinked heavily as if he’d just been staring into space and Kory’s young taut body had just happened to be in the way. But of all the thousand questions written across Kory’s face in that moment, accusations of leering were not among them. Concern, worry, anger and fear mingled to create a weary expression that fought with Kory’s boyish appearance.
Zac could relate, and that feeling of camaraderie exaggerated his guilt for letting his mind and eyes wander south of Kory’s face.
